Eric

"People come, God transforms them, then they leave. That's the nature of the Village"

Eric tells several stories of lives changed though The Village, including his own. This MP3 was recorded at the Fundraising Banquet in February 2008.

Cheryl

I felt God's love and  forgiveness for the first time.  I no longer had the constant compulsion to hurt myself or to die.  I have been able to feel joy, pleasure, and excitement without attacking myself for it.

Perhaps the most amazing thing about the Village is the expectation that we can, should, and MUST walk with each other in the midst of the most broken and sinful parts of our lives.  At the Village, you will regularly hear someone say something like, "That thing you believe is a lie from the pit of Hell, and you need to repent of it."  And they will say it without the slightest hint of judgment.

Getting involved with the Village improved the quality of my life.  My mental and emotional energy are no longer drained by futile attempts to look like I fit in with American culture.  I learned to embrace my differentness and to live out of my true identity.  This has given me the opportunity to offer grace instead of judgment and to encourage others to step out of hiding.  Freedom is contagious!

That can mean a lot of different things, but I think that as much as we are able we should try to inhabit places that build healthy public life. When such places are absent we make them.

I am really grateful to have been at the Village during my time of crisis. I'm especially thankful for the ways that people cared for my kids along the way. When I had trouble holding on to my faith my community encouraged me that it was still there. When I felt emotionally disconnected, the Village music helped me to feel something more than numbness and hear what was true about God and Jesus.
